Stone Sculptures

Whether these carvings are being utilized to carve massive monuments devoted to great leaders or being utilized to carve images of various individuals or animals, nothing stands the test of time better than these carvings. It is this lifetime of art survival that has inspired so many individuals to pursue the art connected to these carvings. Stone was amongst the first material used by prehistoric man to create tools. Though items made from stone gave way to, items made from metal, stone continued to be one of the preferred material for making sculptures.

Gautam Buddha is said to be the ninth incarnation of Vishnu. However, many do not agree. They feel that the theory of his being an incarnation of Vishnu was advanced to create misunderstanding amongst people. We cannot, however, overlook the fact that Gautam Buddha was born in India, where he attained Nirvana and went on to influence Hindu religious thought. Despite originating in India, Buddhism did not continue to attract adherents in India as it did in other countries. In  1193, marauders led by Bakhtiyar Khalji sacked the great Buddhist in India. However, it thrived mightily in in South-East Asia. There are almost 350 million Buddhist around the world.

Lord Ganesha is one of the most significant deities of Indian religion and culture. The son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha is believed to be the remover of all obstacles and is prayed to before the beginning of any occasion. He is a deity with the body of a man and the head of an elephant, a big belly, a broken tusk and a jovial nature. Ganesha is depicted with more than two arms, a mouse and a serpent.

Sri Krishna is the eigth incarnation of Vishnu and is considered to be the most complete one. Like Sri Ram, Sri Krishna is widely worshipped by Hindus around the world. Of the four Dhams, two of them, the Jagannath temple at Puri and the other at Dwarka, are dedicated to Sri Krishna. Magnificent temples dedicated to him are spread all over the world. In Sanskrit, the word Krishna literally means black, or the dark one. This refers to Sri Krishna's complexion, similar to that of Vishnu and Sri Ram - dark and bluish-black. In the Mahabharat, the meaning of Krishna is explained as one who is symbolic of the Absolute Truth.

Shiva is the third member of the Hindu Trinity. Shiva as attractive as one would like him to be, but each of the attributes expresses his glory. The matted hair on his head reminds one of Vayu, the wind God, representing the vital air that no living being in this world can do without. The Ganga flowing from his top knot symbolizes the control Shiva has over the Holy Ganga and its life giving waters. While the use of tiger skin is symbolic of Shiva's control over Shakti and his victory over lust, the use of elephant skin is symbolic of his control over pride. The use of Rudraksh signifies control over health and welfare. The deadly serpents around his neck and the body signify Shiva's victory over death. The damaru is representative of the universal sound OM the source of language and expression. Shiv's trishul is a reminder of the functions Trinity- creation, sustenance and dissolution.

Patanjali, is the original author of the Yoga Sutras, which has been universally acknowledged as the fundamental text on yoga and meditation in the Indian classical tradition.

Patanjali, is the original founder of the Yoga Sutras, which has been universally acknowledged as the fundamental text on yoga and meditation in the Indian classical tradition. He is also the sage regarded in the opening prayer of Ashtanga Yoga.

Hinduism is incomplete without the many goddesses worshipped in numerous forms by Hindus all over the world. The many goddesses have their own history, appearance, character and role. Each is worshipped in her own right.

Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati fulfil specific responsibilities as the consorts of the Hindu Trinity. A stage arrives when more needs to be done beyond what the three consorts do.

Shakti is also described as the divine universal power or energy of a diety. This power is personified in the wife. In this way, while Saraswati is Brahma's Shakti, Lakshmi is Vishnu's Shakti and Parvati is Shiva's Shakti. Parvati's form, as representative of Shakti, is called Durga.

Beautiful assorted stone statues are carved ornately by the artisians.
